Post cold start...takes looong time

This just started happening. I go to start my 86 944 and it's turning over but taking way to long to start. Any ideas?

Ummm...lots of things...fuel pressure regulator, fuel dampener, DME relay, the actual DME, speed/crank sensors, AFM, bad coil, bad cap/rotor/wires/plugs, fuel pump, and a couple other things. I already replaced my DME relay, my ENTIRE ignition system, and checked and double checked the plugs for the speed/crank sensors...I am now awaiting a new fuel pressure regulator and dampener in the mail...it should get here wednesday, and hopefully I will have a fully functional car after I put those on as my car just doesn't start at all now. Good luck, and post your findings here as it may help others with this same problem to diagnose their cars.

If only when cold, I would guess the fuel rail isn't holding pressure.

That leaves fuel pressure regulator, injectors and check valve on the fuel pump.

I recently had this problem. Only happened after the car sat all night or over the weekend. Was told it could be a leaky fuel injector. Bought 4 used injectors, sent them to be cleaned, flow matched and re-ringed. Installed them and the problem cleared for the most part. Then I adjusted the nut on the AFM. Hasn't happened since. I can't remember which way I turned the AFM nut, and it was very little, a half turn at the most.

Where is the nut on the AFM located? I have a '90 944S2. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

Not sure on the S2, but on the NA it is on the AFM. I think there used to be a cap on it. Need an allen wrench to adjust.
