Post really Hot air wont stop blowing

My late 85 wont stop blowing hot air out of the vents. I tied the valve at the back of the engine to what i believe shut, either way open or closed it blows really hot air. How can i stop this hot air. I live in Florida and i never need hot air blowing. The air is hotter than the engine compartment is, like the heat is on full blast. Any suggestions are really appreciated.

I think that you have suffered the infamous heater cable clip. Please search for earlier posts on this. There is clip that holds the heater box closed. 2 bucks from paragon.

The heater clips are the little white things underneath the steering wheel area- you may know this, but I'm not sure you are referring to the same things- as Deepice said, there are two. They are right where your right knee would be- kind of above the shin- there is a black plastic box- you unscrew that- it's like two or three screws- they are behind that- long metal rods that are clipped onto the white plastic clip pieces...

Part #'s are:
944.572.314.00
944.572.217.00

If you are aware of these, and they are what you WERE referring to, then my apologies...

Even if they are on you need to make sure that they are properly adjusted. When fully closed the flap that the clip is attached to needs to be at its highest point to prevent hot air from venting through.

I found out the hard way that if the heater A/C control fuse is blown it defaults to full hot. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

Yeah- it can really be a # of things, but the simplest things to check IMO are the two clips- they will sometimes break off completely- then it's easy to know if they're the culprit- other times, they just wear out and start slipping- it's nice to have someone turn the AC on and off and move from hot to cold, slowly, while you're down under there looking around- it will help you locate it quickly (if you have trouble to begin with- they're directly behind that little black box though)- and to see if they're working right- if they ARE the prob, they are definately the cheapest fix- they're ~$1/ea. That's why I would say to check them first...

Hey, wanabe... check the responses in Triscadek's thread on the strange A/c problem. You'll see in the short-term emergency fix I posted there which way to tie the valve, in case none of the other simple stuff works or you have to wait on parts. Also check to be sure the vacuum line is attached to your heater valve....

I had done the exact same thing as triscadek did with the tie wrap, it made the heat stay off for like an extra 10 seconds, so i still had full heat blowing in my face in 90 degree weather. The control arm does not move when i turn any ****, it doesnt move when i trie moving it with my hands either, like it frozen stuck, or something.

I had the same problem as Alpine951 corrected. securing with a plastic tie wrap also did the trick until I ordered the right part.

you should see the lever mechanism move when switching the temp gauge from full cold to full hot.
