Default Heat always on, Edit: NOT !

EDIT: Turns out my sons description of the problem was not very accurate...it's just the usual AC problems.

Thanks

check with clarks-garage. I just went through this and he walks you through everything you need to check as well as how to fix it.

Thanks, I just found that link again. Africa Hot. I'll check the vac lines first, hopefully it's not the TCU as that's one part I don't have a spare for. I might have to postpone this one for a day, it's already ridiculous hot in the garage.

In the meantime, if there's no hot water going to the unit, it won't be blowing hot, right?

It turns out my sons description of the heat 'always on' was inaccurate at best. The levers do direct air to the correct vents and the air blows ambient until the car gets driven after parked in the sun DUH! Anyway at least all I'm dealing with is what appears to be a bad AC system as high side pressures have dropped in the last month to unacceptable levels and the AC won't kick in at all now. I'm going to let a shop do this one and maybe try a R-134 conversion. It pisses me off because the PO had just spent mega bucks on a new compressor, parts, and repairs less than a year ago

Actually Matt all the o-rings are less than a year old and were replaced (according to the invoice) as part of the new compressor work by the PO. I have a feeling the ones near the evaporator are original as they are a bitch to get to with the engine in the car. I'm hoping it's not a crappy rebuilt compressor and shaft seals that are already leaking. It blew real cold from Feb to June and then stated fading fast after having some cycling issues. I still might try the dye route and Freeze-12 or another R-12 substitute; I'm not willing to waste any of my R-12 on it yet. Oh well, it's just money right?

Those would be the o-rings I was referring to. . . , the ones at the fire wall. I had to replace one of those lines once after kinking it on a motor install and what a royal pain - pulling the union at the firewall and re-ringing would be a cake-walk compared to R&R of the line.

I am converting to R134 before next spring and have to do new o-rings anyway too. It never ends
