Default Passenger side radiator fan not running

Need some help here fellas. Checked other posts, but didn't really get a straight answer.

The passenger side radiator fan stopped working on my '84 NA this past week. I did some of the easy clarks troubleshooting last night. No fuses on the panel are blown. I took voltage measurements across the electrical feed plug with the A/C (both fans should be running full speed) and there was no voltage. So it doesn't appear like any juice is getting to the motor. Driver side fan works like it's suppose to.

Could this be a temp switch or relay issue? Or are there problems in my wiring.

Thanks in advance,
-bp

I'll have a look at the wiring diagram when I get home tonight.
I'm pretty sure there's a resistor up near the windshield cowl that lets the fan run at two speeds; but I think that might only be for the driver's side.
It's pretty simple to check the switch. It's on the upper left of the radiator (as you look at the back from the driver's seat). Just take the two wires off and short them together.

Here is a simple test to check once you know all the fuses are good. Close the thermal switch mounted in the rad on the driver side by connecting the two terminals together. This will simulate the necessary temperature that triggers the switch. As soon as you do that, the driver side fan will come on at slow speed. Now put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. The driver side fan should go to the high speed mode and the passenger side fan should kick on and go on at high speed. If it does not, it could be the fan itself, the relay or the wiring. I would take it from there.

On early cars the 2nd fan only runs when the A/C is on.

Ok, now we know your knowledge of early P cars is zero. If you can't be bothered to read up on these cars, and you don't own one, don't tell people stuff that isn't accurate. Clark's garage is there for you. Read my last post again. The second fan comes on on all 84s with air at the preset high temp value. The setup is very different than the later cars.

''When the ignition is turned on, if a high temperature condition is sensed by the thermofan switch, a contact closes in the thermofan switch circuit which energizes the cooling fan relay and causes both fans to run in fast speed.'' This quote was taken out of Clark's garage cooling fan operation of pre 85.5 944s with air conditioning.

Update to this thread.

Finally had time to troubleshoot the problem. The car has been parked for a couple of weeks.

Used CG's radiator fan writeup extensively during this troubleshoot. First thing I did (and it should have stopped here), checked the fuse. The filament was still intact, so I started at the fan and worked my way back.

Put the car up on the jack, removed belly pan, pulled out the radiator fan/ac wiring diagram and cracked a beer. Traced wiring all the way back to the relay panel...Everything looked good. Check relays on the board and pulled out the two AC relays behind the glove box. Still nothing. No power to the fan.

Scratching my head, and wondering why no power was present, I went to take a look for a loose connection on the fuse board. To my dismay, the fuse ended up being bad. One of the contacts on the end had a crack in the metal. Couldn't see it unless you pulled it out (which I should have done in the first place)

Long story short. Spent 3 hrs on a Friday night to replace a bad fuse.

Just had to vent...

I j ust read this thread today and it helped my problem. I changed the fuses (#3 and #5) although they look intact and good (no breaks) and it worked like a charm. Just what one of the rennlister said, start from the simplest fix and work your way through it.
