Post Armrest/Cupholder conversion

I was wondering if anyone has done the armrest to cupholder and tray conversion. My flip up hinge is on the way of breaking off, not yet, but soon and I am not sure if i want to put it back on, seeing that I would have to re-wrap it, since the leather or vinyl is in bad condition. Is this worth my money, or has anyone else bothered to custom convert their own into something else. Here is a picture from a site just to use as an example:

The only problem I see with that is it looks like it would be a pain get/put the drink. It's behind your right elbow, out of your field of vision, etc.

Yea, I was thinking that too, also, when the cup isn't there, it kind of looks cheap. yet if it didnt even have the cupholder part, and was just like tray type thing, I dont think it would look that bad.

I have been looking for one of those. I think they look good, much better than a cracked off cover.

Get a new hinge, and take it to a shop and have them redo it. Cost me like 30 bucks and looks factory...

I replaced that stupid hinge and was impressed I had an opening cover...Opened it about 5-6 times and I see the stupid thing is already starting to split...Unbelievable...

Here's an armrest re-cover in leather I did for $5:

Inside of the top is lined in leather, too:

I wouldn't want a cupholder there unless I had an auto trans, personally.

I did the same as 944Play. Recovered everything myself for less than the shipping to order a replacement.

ArcticCzar put one in his car last year that looks a lot like your pic. I also wondered about the drink holder being so far back, but he said it worked well 'cause his elbow wouldn't hit it when shifting. I remember being impressed with the fact that it would accommodate a Cohiba cigar perfectly.

We have some placemats made out of the exact same grippy stuff that all your items in there is sitting on. I'm going to go cut one and put that in there. Good thinking...now all my change and crap wont rattle around in there!

I cracked off the little tongue that gets in the way, polished the remaining stub, and lined the inside with a thinner version of the shelf liner stuff.

Crap goes in the center compartment.
