How can I make my 1982 Porsche 924 Faster and sound better?
How can I make my 1982 Porsche 924 Faster and sound better? I have just about stock everything on it right now except the muffler, which is made by Bosel. Should I get a new muffler? where? and what is the best brand? also what kind of performance kits could I buy to make it faster or whatever, also does anyone know if there are eurodash kits that go for a 924? (my stock speedometer only goes up to 80mph!!!)THANKS

Hmmm...audi 5000 throttle body, test pipe, headers, 2.5" mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust, cone air filter with a home made cold air induction system, MSD ignition, high power coil, platinum plugs, 8 mm wires...basically a couple of grand in upgrades for ~15-20 HP.
As far as mufflers go, the bullet muffler that I have on my speedforceracing exhaust sounds killer IMHO. Very throaty at idle and midrange, and a total howler at WOT, but in no way obnoxiously loud.
Other options...sell it and buy a 951 (bet you never heard that one before ), drop a small block chevy into it, drop a gnx/grand national/turbo regal/turbo trans am motor into it, or try the electric leafblower supercharger idea.
I wonder if the audi 5000 turbo 5 cyl (I think) engine can be stuffed in there?

I know someone who gets 127 rear wheel hp out of his 1981 924 NA. (I would guess 150 crank hp).
Personally I would say that upgrading a 924NA is not worth the money, but it can be done.

Of course you'd say that, you have a 944
There's plenty of information here: http://www.924.org/techsection/technical.htm
Just go to 1 - Engine.

Unfortunately it is hard to find 1981/82 931s for sale in the Portland, OR area. I almost purchased a 1980 931 "project car" but I simply don't have the space for a car that doesn't run right now.
I would have swaped a 944 transmission and engine into it.

yeah, but just don't drop a V8 in it or else the'll flame you, even if you do have a 944 aswell, you are only allowed to put poudi parts on it, even if is not financially viable, if you want to make friends, sell it, buy a Turbo and keep everyone happy around you, alternitavly how about dropping a turbo unit into your car and reeping the rewards, There must be a few crash damaged floating around and I'm sure not all make it back from the races salvagable. 5 cylinder is a non-starter as it's too long, I tried even with the rad out it doesn't fit

-Better Fuel - 93 Octane if it's not a problem
-If you're looking for accleration go for lower profile tires (Yokahoma maybe). But if you go 215/50 instead of 215/60 it'll make your speedometer read 6% off. Hence 106 would really be 100.

Ok my turn!
A lot of the time when I look at the clock when it's 9:something I see a Porsche model number. I'm seing 9:17 now, saw 9:14 last time I looked. I notice seeing 9:35 a lot..hehe...This is why I never bought a 968 (it's not the money issue...it's this...right...)..it can never be 9:68, so I can't own that car cause I can't tell time with it! er something....

Before you turn your 924 into a "parts hanger" do some research. European Car magazine did a "Project 924" or something like that several years ago. They tried pretty much everything bolt on without much success as I remember. -Chris

I think you should really research the car before you purchase it. But if thats all you can afford thats cool too. Have you considered find a wrecked turbo 924?? That will be a godly diff in performace, considering you know who to install one or else $$$$$$$ Good luck

Wasn't there a 50hp coffee-can upgrade? There was a photo running around on the internet of a Jeep Cherokee with that upgrade installed. But the site is offline now. Anyway save a copy of that photo?
