I just noticed a small coolant leak from the water pump ( I hope this is the only one ). I have an 83', but it looks like the water pump is from a turbo model. There is a plastic piece right in the center of it the looks like it should be connected to another hose. However, where a hose would connect is closed. The gasket/seal looks like it is leaking. The main gasket/seal may also be leaking. Does anyone know the part numbers. I was not able to find them on Pelican nor in a Tweeks catalog. The pump seems to work fine ( the heater blows hot air until the coolant level gets to low ). I need to do some more checking, but I am almost sure these 2 could be replaced.

Sgopher,
You have the "updated" water pump, and the appendix you see is normal. A little weepage isn't too serious. What's more important is whether the bearings inside the pump are wearing. Do you hear a grinding or whining noise at idle? That would be a bad sign.
If you're due for timing/balance belts, then you should go ahead and replace the pump, but if not, I'd hold off and just keep an eye on the coolant reservoir until the pump started making a noise.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I will check it when the snowstorm is finally gone. It figures the first time I have to park the car outside for a couple of days, we get hit with a huge snowstorm. We got new bedroom furniture and I had to give up my garage space for a couple of days until I can move the old furniture out. I just noticed the coolant on the ground ( and sporadic loss of heat ). I was able to check it slightly, but not thorough enough to give me a good sense of the leak.
