The motor broke on my 84 944 NA. Main bearings. So, I can part out the car or put in a new motor. A local shop here in St. Louis will sell me a used motor, no guarantees what shape it's in, for $950 and install it for $2000 - $2500. That's with the broken motor already out of my car. I can get a long block from Huntley Racing for $3500 plus core and put it in myself. I'm looking for a happy medium, a used motor that's got a fairly new waterpump and timing belt and decent compression, something I can get two years out of without major repair. Anybody out there know of a place selling such things?
I've found that the local repair shops have a definite lack of interest in doing this job. The one that did quote me the price really wants to sell me another car and get mine so they can have the parts.

John Anderson had a great motor for sale at a better price with a warranty...Don't know if it is still available but you can't beat a deal like that.
