Just curious...
Do you get much attention from other drivers or passersby with your 951?
Do people stare or say "Wow! a PORSCHE! Nice!"?
(Of course they pronounce it "Porsh")
It seems that I got WAY more attention when I had my 928 (several years ago).
Truth is, either way...I'm head over heels in love with my '88 951.
Sigh...

i think that 928's and 911's get more attention than the 944's or 951's. just because the average person on the street knows the 911 is a porsche and they saw the 928 in risky buisness. im not going to deny that the 911 is more recognizable as a porsche, but the 951's and 944's ane just as good or better(951) cars. i seem to get attention from people that know cars. the average joe or soccer mom in her 4ton suburban doesnt realy pay much attention. that was, untill i put my 3inch free flow exhaust in. know mostly everybody looks to see whats making all that noise

Although not a 951, I have a cabrio (which is a dark color) and it seems to attract attention when I have the top down but otherwise I think it just fits in with the rest of traffic.

The first week I had my car, I took my girlfriend to a restaurant and I was amazed on how they treated me. I didnt even need to look for a spot as they offered me one right by the entrance.
I certantly notice people looking at my car, even though it doesnt really matter. Maybe It's the bright and shiny guards red...
By the way, I spoke to one of my friends when I was over in Brazil. He Is german and lived there for many years, he told me that over there they say Porrssh.

The thing I hate is when the car draws unwanted attention. Two weeks ago, I had my car at a popular bar area in town(known as the Strip district--no, it is not filled with strip bars)
I parked it on the street, because it is always packed and you park where you can, anyways when I returned to the car I found someone had spit on my drivers' side window
About a year ago someone had spit on the hatch glass down around the same area. My car is by no means the nicest one around that area, there are a few 911s, Ferrari 355 cabs(two), Escalades, MBs, etc...it just pisses me off that people act that way for whatever reason. Believe me, if I ever witnessed someone doing this, they would be licking the glass clean. Although I guess spit is better than keying <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

Last month I came out of a restaurant and there was a stick-it note on my window that said, "Awesome car!!".
I don't really get the whole "lets leave this guy a note" thing. It's not like I saw it and said, "Wow - my car IS awesome" (I wouldn't have bought it if I thought different).....but the gesture was not without grace.
I actually thought about putting a small add in the local paper thanking whomever it was "that left the note on the Porsche on XXX date at XXX place". I was kinda hoping it would B a girl
I also get a lot of "thumbs up" gestures from people in front of me looking in the rear-view mirror.
It is a trip driving this car though - I live in a "One-Porsche Town", so when I drive on the local streets, I'd say about 40% of the people are always looking in some shape or form.
The best though was when I had this women come up to me and explain how her son is the biggest car fan in the world and how he talked about my car at supper every night for the last two weeks. This lil' cat was only about 7 years old, but he knew exactly what kind of car I had. His mom asked me if he could sit in it. I said, "Would he like a drive??". When I said that, he started hopping up and down (he was in the passenger seat of his moms CRV). His mom let him go for a quick spin with me (pretty trusting mom or I have that "he isn't a murderer" face or something). This kid was Mr. "I know just about everything about Porsches". He amazed me. He knew the difference between the N/A and the S (which I have) - he didn't know about the 16 Valves, etc, etc - but he knew it had "about 20 extra horsepower".
After a 5-minute jaunt - I brought him back to his mom. She thanked me and thanked me cause I guess he wouldn't shut-up about the car. He told me he was starting to save his allowance right now so he can have a Porsche as his first car. It was a cool day!!!
Guess what his second favorite car is??? Elise!! Heck - I didn't even know what an Elise was until I came to this board and I'm 32!!
My favorite though is the fact that when I drive my Sidekick and am entering a building/store, etc, etc - I get treated "normally". When I'm driving the Porsche - people hold open doors a lot more!!! Very weird/sad/and interesting all at the same time.

My NA gets too much attention...Let me qualify that statement:
I live in a congested urban area where in order to get onto a freeway, someone has to be nice and let you in. When I'm in one of the Porsches, I don't get let in. I end up having to force my way into traffic, cut off the person who wouldn't let me in, only to hear the inevitable "Honk-Honk - YOU"RE A JACKASS" or something to that effect.
When it's my turn to let someone in, I always do, however, there is always someone who tries to cut in front of me at the very last second even though there is 1/8 mile empty behind me. Pisses me right off.
I do occasionally catch someone looking at my car, but to be honest, I really try not to look at anyone else or their cars (except for my baby's Porsche brethren), so I guess I can't speak to that too well. People always tell me how nice it is.
And the other day my girlfriend and I were helping a friend move. This other girl was there (who my girlfriend HATES), and she said "Wow, is that a 2003 or something?" I laughed and said no, it's an 87. SHe just looked kind of dumbstruck and said "Well you look hot in it." I just kind of looked at the g-f and said thanks.
I'm still hearing about that one. Sheesh.
In the Pontiac this stuff never happens.

All -
Well, I seemed never to have anyone look at my car until I put the RENNLIST sticker on it after becoming a member.
Now, everyone looks at it and smiles.
To get the good attention - try the Rennlist sticker on the windscreen or back glass, after joining rennlist of course!

(It's not friday yet, but heck, it sure feels like it.)

I never thought of that.
Now he is most likely going on about the interior.
I can picture it now....
(At the family supper table)
"Mom - it was awesome. It had leather seats and this really cool tiny back seat. My legs went straight out!! The doors were really heavy and......."
(Mom) "That's enough - eat your Rice!!!"
....and another Honda lover was born.....

The thing I find the most amusing is that everyone thinks I paid a bunch of money for my 951 -- you know it's got the turbo emblem on the back and the porsche emblem on the front and all. They don't realize it cost 2/3's less than their econo Jap car!
I often get the it's-a-nice-car nod from someone passing me -- usually if they're a guy, but rarely do I get the nod if I'm doing the passing -- odd.
Lately I've been doing most of the passing (right after I get a mule out in front of me!)

Sometimes you get good attention, sometimes bad. My car has been spit on so many times I have lost count. But then again, I get more looks from people in other cars too. Whenever I take people out in my car they always ask, "Do people always look at your car while you're driving?" Answer, sometimes, my favorite are the high school kids who are drving by in their hondas.
No i'm not saying hondas are bad, but if some of them only knew what I pay for my car.....

Around here .... I get tons and tons of looks, questions and stares....
The boxers do not get as many, they tend to blend in with the honda's and toyotas that are out there....( go ahead, flame me)
I constantly have kids yelling from the road side "NICE CAR!"
I have had women at the gas station asking me about my car.
I have had guys at stop lights asking what year it was, and being shocked at the fact that it is an 86.
I have gone to the bars around town, and have had the door men wave me to park right at the front of the door...
So yes... it gets lots of attention, but in my opinion it does not look like your average NA.
