Have the head ported and polished. Make sure the place that does it has a flow bench. Do a 5 angle grind on the valves, shave the head down as far as specs will allow to raise the compression a bit. Port match the intake and exhaust manifolds to the head.

Dave (first off, thanks),

What will all this stuff do to my car performance-wise and how much extra should I look at paying over the basics???

do cams while you're in there. I think Web Cams can set you up with a decent set. I think you'd have an honest 220 hp if you did the cams and port and polish as mentioned above. That would make your car a real hot ticket. I may even stop harasssing you to get an 8 valve.

Erick - I checked on doing a port and polish - but there are no shops locally that have the flow bench (darn it!!). My mechanic said that procedure would/could add 4-6 horses per cyl.

Now - what about "doing the cams"? What does this entail and what is a rough price? Is this something that will add lots of shop hours?

I forgot to ask.....

What could the shop that is putting in the valves do to upgrade performance? They don't have a flow bench.....is there anything I can ask them to do that will help performance?

As far as the timing goes, I put this here a while back. <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=007600" target="_blank">Pics of the "S" timing adjustment</a>
