I would say that arm is ruined. The top of the ball joint socket will be too worn to keep the ball in, and if it isnt itll eat a ball joint upper bushing in no time.

Nope, not yet. I still have Rosie the Ford Econoline 250 to drive around in. I'll break that soon too. Then it will be horseback.

Regarding the top parts: The little resin (plastic) bits, two rows above the red zerk-fitting covers are the top cups.
Right, those are the top cups, but they're plastic. They're bushings for the ball to ride in. They're not for strength. The aluminum is what actually holds the ball.

Oh yeah Scott... thats bad. No amount of cowbell is going to fix that one.

Shoot me over a PM, email, call, etc.. and I should be able to dig you up a rebuildable core for around $25 - $35. That looks like a drivers side 86 offset arm?

Also, you should be able to jack that around so the ball pin sits back in the pocket in order to roll the car in the garage if you need to.

Trav -

Cool. We'll drop you a note in the next couple of days. We're off to California in a few hours. Will get back soon.

How did Travis know it was an early aluminum arm as opposed to a late offset one?

If we ever make it to a RL meet, I'll have a cold one packed away for you. Mmm... fresh and cool like a mountain stream!

He's an idiot savant.

Or....

...he's seen enough to know.

Or...he knows Jen's car is an 85.5.

I like the title "idiot savant" for some reason but .... you can see from the picture that the arm is 1" shorter than the late ones. Can't you see it?
