Post How do I fix windsheild wiper motor noise?

My front wiper motor is making a very loud noise when it first starts moving. I have removed and cleaned all the wiper posts and lubricated everything. Is there a way to get the motor clean without removing it? It looks very hard to get out of the car.

Question

Does the motor make the noise if you take the arms off and then run it ? The blades could be sticking to the windshield causing a noise when they first start moving. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

No, it definity comes from the motor since I ran the wipers off the mounts when I cleaned them and the motor still made a loud noise.

You got to take the whole mechanism out.
The bright side is that it gives you an nice chance to clean up under it: fresh air intake for passenger compartiment.

When you take the gear apart that is on the motor, be sure to mark the outgoing shaft relative to the cover and the cover relative to the body and once open the gear wheel relative to the cover so you can get every piece back in the original position.
The stop position of the wiper blades is handled via contacts inside the gear housing. If the position of this is changed your wiper blades will be parked at a random position on the screen.
It takes trial & error to get it back to were it is supposed to be.

If you find a fix let me know, mine does the same. I've been told that you can try and get some penetrating oil to lube the shaft at the motor (an each of the blade arm shafts) and let the oil seep down the shaft. This may provide adequate lubrication, but I haven't tried it yet.

Hi Melchior, I found this thread looking for info on a different problem, but I have a suggestion for your issue. If the noise you hear is a loud "pop", make sure the thin horizontal plastic cover between the engine firewall and the windshield is placed properly on the windshield edge. It should rest on small tabs on the windshield edge, keeping it clear of the wiper motor and linkage assembly. I installed the plastic cover incorrectly once, and it was interfering with the wiper mechanism, making that loud "pop" sound. Good luck!

Getting penetrating oil into the right spot can be tough. I use PB blaster (my choice) but this works well with any type: 1. take the straw that comes with the can and cut it into two pieces. Take a piece of 1/8 line (bore size-wiper hose might do) I used clear vinyl fuel line for weed whacker for this, and slide it over i end of each piece of the straw. put 1 end in the little hole on the can and voila! you now have a flexible spout on the can..since I used clear plastic line I can see the "Blaster" coming up the line. It can be a bit fussy with the short piece of the straw stuck into the can button, so make sure that it is "locked" in as best as possible before you start to spray..otherwise, you wear it.. Just a tip to try to make your life easier...Tiger03447
