Default Smell on DS?

Posted this on the Turbo forum but it was suggested I post here too for more traffic. I've owned my '86 951 for about two weeks and have been getting to know it and I've been loving it. But recently (in the past couple days) I noticed what I think is a gas smell after getting out of the car after a drive. I say I "think" because I have a hard time finding the smell again, but I do think I only smell it on the driver's side, towards the rear of the car. I checked under the hood around the fuel rail/fuel lines and I don't see a leak and I don't smell anything under the hood. Car drives great, though there is a suspected exhaust/wastegate-related leak. Any ideas what this might be?

Thanks!

pull up the carpet in the hatch, and on the big flat surface, there should be two black rubber circles (where you access the fuel tank levelers), one might be partially off, or gone completely (Mine came loose once and the smell came from there)

I notice a fuel smell but only when the tank is nearly full.
