Default WHAT IS BETTER: EARLY 994 1985 OR 944 1986

Hello,
anybody know what is better between an EARLY 994 1985 OR 944 1986.
I have a early 85, and was thinking of switching for a 86.
I heard something like parts are way more expensive on the after 85 1/2 series.
Like ball joint for example. (early: volks rabbit ball joint would fit)
I want to know because I have at least 3000$ 3500$ to put on my early 85 (I need new clutch, shocks, something is wrong with gear shift (really hard to get in gear), all the balancing wheels, drive shafts, etc....)
And I found a 1986 944, I havent seen it yet, but the guy says it's in really good condition. Only Injectors to change, but he has the same problem for swiching gears.
Anyway, he is selling the car for almost the same price it would cost me to repair mine.
Does anybody prefer late edition than early?
Here the picture of the 86

The control arm/ball joints are cheaper on the early 944s. But It's really trivial compared to other maintenance/repair issues. A well cared for 1984 will be a LOT better than a neglected 1989. Also, you need to evaluate the "jackpot" items like clutch and timing belt, and find out if/when they were last serviced. Those things account for a lot more $$$ than the specific items that might be cheaper or more expensive.

I own one of each ('84 and '86) and the improvements on the '86 are impressive and many. If I were to start fresh, I wouldn't buy an early car unless I were going to strip it for track. Greg is dead-on as far as costs. You are wise to step back and think about this option! Four months after I bought my early and was way deep into it, I found a late car for the same price that needed the same $$$ but is a much nicer car.
