Post a/c question

im thinking of the kit from 944online.com for $480 bucks - it comes with compressor r12/134 conversion, dryer, hoses, etc. anybody ever purchase one ? thoughts ? - it comes with a 1 yr warranty!.
my other option is just buying a compressor used. my mecahnic narrowed it down to my compressor being the culprit of my a/c leak. although i have not been able to find a used compressor yet!
how many hours labor just to change the compressor ? how many hours labor to change the entire system ?
thanks

$480 for a/c ?! forget that man. just take the top off, roll the windows down and drive as fast as you can... the wind should cool you off.

Have a link to that kit? $430 or whatever doesn't seem outrageous. Warning: make sure they warranty their compressors, completely! We have been going through remanufactured ones at the shop like crazy this year - it seems that the reman process is going south, quick!

Your mechanic won't like eating labor on several compressor replacements if the same situation arises...

If it is a new compressor in the kit, I'm interested in the kit, too!

I'ts listed under new parts but I haven't asked if the compressor is new or not. Sounds like a good deal anyway. Heres the link... A/C Kit

hey guys
thanks for your responses !
i found out the kit from 944online is brand new
a new compressor - not used nor rebuilt !
the whole kit for $480 warr - 1yr
i may consider it - i think it may not be a bad deal! i dont want to end up swapping compressors b/c they end up bad if i go the used route if you know what i mean...
anybody know how many hours labor im looking at ?
thanks

I just finished R&Ring my faulty A/C Compressor and had all the same questions. There should be a few posts if you do a search. I decided on a new Sanden compressor after looking into used and rebuilts for the very reason that it was difficult to assure a quality unit if not new. You should consider switching to the newer and readily available(read: cheap) R-134 refrigerant. Vertex sold a kit with the adapter bracket and hoses for $329 (I think the price went up to $389) but the thing cools well here in Florida. There is also a company called Kuehl that supposedly makes quality aftermarket compressors for a bit more. The installation for the Sanden was pretty straightforward although you need to have an A/C shop suck the system to a complete vacuum before pressurizing with the R 134. Hope this helps.

Mike
