Thanks, everyone! This was my first foray into body work and painting, so I'm glad it worked out. The colour match isn't perfect, obviously -- the original paint was no doubt a different brand, and was applied 20 years ago by someone who knew what he was doing!

I got most of the parts in rural Pennsylvania while I was living in NYC, and packed them hilariously into my Audi, leaving room only for me on the 4 hr drive back. One fender turned out to be trash, though, so I got a replacement from Whale Tail in Waterloo.

One unusual finding: all 944 fenders seem to have a lot of filler on them up at the point where the fender meets the headlight cover, right from the factory. Has anyone else found this?

Filler from the factory? Hmm...Burma...paging Burmashave......

My gut tells me...no filler from factory.

Ha, yeah, I thought it seemed a little strange, too, but all five fenders I've had appear to have some right at that point (basically following the contour of the headlight cover, apparently to build a tighter-radius curve at the gap).
