Post Will an exhaust designed for a 951 fit a 944?

I'm specifically asking about the SFR 3" straight pipe for the 951. I need some sort of new exhaust, as the one I have now isn't cutting it -- and $149 isn't half bad. A few months ago my exhaust broke right in front of the muffler, and it sounded GOOD. Not red-neck obnoxious, just good. The cat is enough to muffle the noise level. So, I'm considering investing in one of these straight pipes, and I'd like to get this 3" one from SFR eventually. But will it fit my car? I see they have an exhaust+muffler for the 944 NA, but I also see it's $599. Ouch.

In a year to 1.5 years, I'll probably slap on a supercharger and I figured I might as well take care of the exhaust side of the air flow house.

Thoughts?

Don't quote me on this, Matt, but I believe the piping lengths, etc. are different.

Try Bosal. OEM quality and a lifetime warranty for an extra $20.

No...

Stock NA exhaust is 2.25" - stock Turbo exhaust is 2.5". Also, flange behind cat is 3-bolt on NA vice 4-bolt on Turbo.

You're best bet is to find a friendly local muffler shop that'll custom bend some tubing for you. Even with adding say a $50-75 Dynomax/Magnaflow/Flowmaster (louder mufflers) you'll be ahead on costs. Or, talk to Tim to see if he can work up something special.

Good Luck!

But Skip, if I'm looking to supercharge in the future anyway, wouldn't I want larger diameter for better flow? The SFR one is 3", so I'd have the 2.25 coming from before the cat then 3 inches after the cat... what would the problem be?

I may look into just getting someone to bend some piping like you said. It was just that $149 seemed so inexpensive compared to what I've heard "custom" exhausts run. Plus, I really like that 4" SFR tip. Anyone know where I can get something like that in just the tip? All Autozone has is tips that light up with "cool" LEDs.

Getting pipe bent and a muffler installed locally is normally going to be your cheapest solution. Down the line, when you have enough cash for a SC then you'll certainly have enough for the trick exhaust that should go with it.

You need to decide if you are trying to get back on the road, or trying to modify. Upgrading or bypassing the cat once the SC is in will give you some real benefit.

Bump, I'm very interested in a straight pipe too Matt. It's very affordable to me. I'm very happy to hear that no muffler sounds GOOD and not obnoxious... I've wanted to know that for a while. SFR has a 2.5" straight pipe also...wouldn't that sound nearly the same? Or I guess Matt is more concerned about exhaust flow in his future of forced induction than sound quality...

Oh, anyone know if the S exhaust specs are the same as an n/a? Also I heard n/a headers are different from turbos and n/a's...
