Default Help with broken body stud.

I broke the stud that holds the a/c lines and turbo aux. water pump. I took my fender liner off tonight to drill it out and found out (DUHHH) that the strut tower is double walled and the stud is on the top part. Does anyone have any advise on how to get this stud out, much less get a new one in????

You might be able to find a body shop with a stud welder...

OR

weld a short standoff in place and use a bolt or screw to hold the clamps in place

OR

drill and tap it to accept a bolt / screw

OR

drill and tap it, bolt in from the bottom and use as if it were a stud... could even tig or mig the bolt in place... you would never know until the strut tower rusted out on you from the hole... but...

Thanks, John, the last one was my plan but that obviously is not going to happen since it is double walled. I will probably look at doing the other two.

Does anyone else have any ideas on this?

If you're MIG enabled it will be snap - grind the old one off, get a weld stud from McMaster-carr (30 cents). Zzzt. a little touch up paint and you're done. If no welder available (heaven forbid), you're probably looking at a sheet metal bolt similar to what you removed to get the fender off. Just my view of the world...Bruce

I am worried about all the heat at the a/c lines. Am I going to be ok with that much heat there?
