Post Opinions on this S2 anyone?

I'm looking at a car that is the Northern Atlanta area. It's a 91 S2 Coupe Black/black. It is at German motors. I can't get down there presently but was wondering if someone could help me by taking a quick cursory look at her for me and report back on whether or not it is worth pursuing.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm just curious to get some opinions about this 91S2. It was posted in an earlier thread and Brian McCoy was kind enough to shoot some photos for me. There is a jack point that is bent but I'm not exactly sure where it is in relation to the vehicle and what might need to be done to fix it. The links are in the response below. If someone knows how to post them w/o links by all means feel free to post them in this thread...again...your opinions.

I'll take my camera with me to work tomrrow and try to swing by on the way home. Anything specific you want me to look at - or just the general overall condition (whatever they'll let me dig into). How picky are you - that'll determine how closely I look...

Well...I've been known to be pretty picky. Just pretend as if you were looking it over for yourself. Or you were buying for mom. Hehehe.

Thanks Brian.

LOL.. right, mom can walk!!

Damn, could that place be any further away and still in Norcross!!?? lol - don't know if I can make it out there today, that's a bit more of a hike than I'd planned for time-wise. I might be able to run up there this weekend though, if noone else can do you the favor. Let me see how I can schedule things today though... I might be able to skip out of work early and miss the bulk of traffic (we're talking 2~3 hours of traffic time to go maybe 45 miles durring rush hour).

I'll see how the day goes.

what a gentleman. I'm sure there are more listers in Atlanta than just you. I've got a friend in that are but they know squat about these cars.

Saw the car.... I have LOTS of pictures if you want them (I might post the important spots for other listers if they happen across this car) - but those will have to be later tonight. The GF wants to was my 951..

Triple black, tinted windows, no obvious bodywork but the drivers side rear jack point is folded back at about an 80deg angle and the lower skirting is gone from there (hit something hard). The rear hatch has electrical tape across the top of it (leak?) and the sunroof has a LOT of fairly deep scratches (might be able to wet-sand it out - I'm not sure). Wheels were the stock dishes and the car appears stock in general. The interior showed one nice thing - a perfect dash. To bad the carpeting was pulled away in every spot I checked. Aftermarket tape player (I think it was a changer controleer too - though I'll have to look), shift bood was not fastened and the plastic bezel for the base was in one of the door map pockets. Normal seats, drivers bolter showed wear but wasn't ripped. The passanger door lock pole (?? what the heck is that thing called?) was broken and had something wire-related jammed in there. I couldn't get into the hatch for option codes and just now realized I forgot to open the hood.. oops (by that point I would have walked away for anything I'd buy or recomend to a friend).

I've no idea what they were/are asking - but it's not a very nice car cosmetically when you start getting nitpicky.

Time to go wash mine.. such a beautiful day down here in Atlanta.... hope this helped.

Oh well. What are the opinions out there? They are getting a new boot for the shifter. They didn't say anything about the passenger lock or the jack point. thanks for your work. did you speak to anyone?

Nope, didn't speak to anyone (and I was out there for a good 15~25 minutes - have 15 minutes of video). I only even saw 1 other person and that was the dude washing cars. Apparently it's a low pressure sales enviroment.

Depending on the price and how lucky you feel - it could possibly be something good.. the bent jack-point scares the crap outta me though. The carpet is easily fixed/replaced and same with the passange door lock. The hatch may not be leaky, and is fixable if it is. The sunroof can be repainted, etc.... I think s2's are in the 12k ave. range, so for 7~8k, this one might be a good buy.

Now that I've checked mine, the fact that the rear hatch wouldn't open kinda bothers me. For some reason I thought the key needed to be in - but that's not the case. This car just has the Feel of passing on problems - but I'm no expert.

Again, the damage to the jack point scares the crap outta me (but that's because I don't know what that means) - if you find out from someone who knows these cars a little better and they say that's nothing the the rest are nit-picky items. Probably need to do a fair bit of work on the sunroof (color sanding, possibly a repaint). The interior needs some fit and finish work also - but I imagine that's mroe busy work than expensive. The real BIG unknown is mechanics - it needs a PPI to find out what expensive stuff lays in wait.

There weren't any fluid leaks on the ground, but the bottom of the engine looked 'moist' - take from that what you will.

Asside from that, give me specific things to reply to and I'll dig through the saved images and give you the best answer possible.

I was thinking since there were only like 500 coupes brought in 91 and that there are less than that now this might be a good purchase.

First, it's really cool how thorough Brian was!

I would pass on this car. If it has so many ugly points, it may show a car that has been neglected everwhere--including timing belt, tensioner, etc.

Plus, if the FRAME of the car is bent (jackpoint), why bother!? There are other S2's out there (Tom's) in nice shape, taken care of by Porsche lovers. Jamming a wire into the door lock, and throwing TAPE over a seal really doesn't say much in the care dept!
