Default stuck snap ring on t-stat!

Help...the friggin' snap ring is "frozen" or stuck...of course its the original and installed so that you cannot see the ends without laying under, reaching, contorting or use of a mirror.

Any suggestions?

TIA.

Tap around the edges with a brass drift.

And if its the original factory isntalled ring, you have one old pump on your hands, have you given any thought to replacing that? I have always replaced pumps when I replaced belts, just a thought.

Yep...Zims seems to have the best deal on a waterpump from what I've read.

The pump seems to be working fine though, no leaks, squeals, etc...but I am preparing for a "tune up" anyway. I just want the damn t-stat out.
