Default Balance Shaft Question 944N/A

Thanks to StoogeMoe for the help on the Timing question. Here's my next question. I want to check my Balance Shaft Timing. I have the engine at TDC. The upper Balance Shaft Sprocket appears to be correct, notch on gear aligns with notch on housing. I can't see any notches on the lower gear nor can I find the alignment tab on the housing. The lower part of this gear is behind the cambelt cover. I have to use a mirror to even see the gear. Is there another way to see this gear and since I can't see any notches on the gear does this mean the lower shaft is out of sinc? Any help would be much appreciated.

The notches are on the back plate behind the gear. Transfer them to the front for easier checking. They should also point to the tab. The photo attached should help you out.

I just went through the same thing, take a look at the last 2 pages of this thread

It's all there and that's how I fixed mine. You do have to remove the lower belt cover.
