Default Strange grounds issue

Howdy,

In the process of chasing some electrical issue with my 951, I checked the resistance between the ground pins on the DME plug, and the negative battery terminal. The result was a resistance of 15 Ohm. I was expecting 0 Ohm.

I next checked the resistance between an actual chassis ground (a piece of bare metal on the roll cage that is welded into the car), and the negative battery terminal. Result: 0 Ohm, as expected.

Doe this mean my DME grounds are in need of cleanup, or is there another explanation?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Gary

By doing this aren't you measuring the resistance of the wires between these two points? 15ohm would sound about right.

Thanks! Yes, the wire resistance plays into it. But it should be negligible: 18 gauge copper wire has a resistance of maybe 3-5 Ohm -- per 1000 ft...

I don't have a turbo... but you should read less than 1 Ohm... Because that is what I get in my 86N/A.
Clean the grounds on the bell housing. Might be easier said than done on a turbo though... lol.

Calmchaos, thanks!

Yeah... I cleaned all grounds, except for the ones at the bellhousing. Tough to get to... maybe tomorrow...
