Post Taking the 951 plunge

Well guys... I woke up yesterday morning to a bright beam of understanding shinning down on me like a spot light from a ghetto bird. I now understand that I want a 951. I have not had a car note in the past couple years and cannot bear to think about it... so I will be saving up and paying cash. My questions to you all:

1) how much does mileage affect these cars? I understand that receipts and caring make up most of the basis for an answer to this... but what have you found? Can one that has been properly cared for and has 130k on the clock still perform like one that has 60k?

2) the price range varies. Is one that cost 15k 9k better than one that is 6k?

3)what are some major things I need to look out for in a Turbo that I would not look for in every other Porsche?

It will take me a year or so to save up for the cash...so I have the time to find the one that is right... what all do I need to look for?

I am also selling my 924s...cheap! real cheap. So if anyone is looking for another toy, let me know!
And if anyone knows of a remedy to keep me from dreaming all day and all night about what is to come... Please chime in!!!! <img src="graemlins/sleep.gif" border="0" alt="[sleep]" /> <img src="graemlins/sleep.gif" border="0" alt="[sleep]" />

1. I would be much more concerned with how well taken care of the car is than the milage, to a point. If you are looking at a 951 with 290,000 miles on it, even well maintained, if it is on the original motor with no rebuild, I would worry, but these cars are designed to go hundreds of thousands of miles on the original motor so the difference between 50,000 and 150,000 miles would be negligable if both cars were equally well maintained.

2. No. A car is worth as much as you are willing to pay for it, and you probably won't find any 951's for more than $12,000 unless it is a turbo S (not a good deal, IMHO because I would replace everything that makes it an S in the first place) or some show car/pampered to the max car, in which case you may have problems because the previous owner probably never took the revvs over 3000 and you will have a lot of carbon build up on the exhaust valves.

3. Header leaks, definitely get a compression check, excessive oil in the intercooler/pipes, proper boosting, missing heat shields, play in the compressor shaft, unknown/unwanted modifications (drilling of the cycling valve for instance) are a few turbo specific things to look out for.

You will know your car when you see it...good luck!

Thanks for the answers Ribs! Just the insight I was looking for. All I need now is some Tylenol P.M. or something! I swear the past two days have been nothing but day dreaming! It is like I am 10 again and Christmas is just around the corner. Oh well.... it will give me plenty time to prepare and surf the boards to figure out exactly what I want. Again, thanks for the reply.
