First of all we're not glamorizing anything, we're just talking. I don't street race and I don't plan on racing in the future except on the track. My father was telling me about how people used to race in italy where he was born and lived for 20 years. I couldn't even imagine what they did until he told me. I think Zoltan should be sending messages to people over there, not here. Then again, people in Europe know how to drive. I'm sure 90 percent of the people who died in those accidents you guys posted didn't know how to drive. I think that's mainly the reason. I could be wrong.

I myself am against racing. When I feel the need to drive race, I either load up need for speed or I drive my go cart. Now back to the original topic of a good story (not one about street racing) I woke up one morning and decided to drive my go cart. After a few laps, the tires lost their battle against the dew on the grass and I slid into the lake that I was driving next to. Thankfully I was ok and after a few hours with a blowdryer the go cart was running again. I know that I might drive a little recklessly inside the go-cart but I more than make up for it the way I drive my 3,000 lb. car that can be used as a weapon not only on myself but on other, innocent people.

ZMan, I apologize for the harsh words. However, no one forces you to read the post. I would hope that a glorification of street racing is not going on here. I would hope that most Porsche owners have brains enough to avoid street racing all together. I agree with you in the fact taht the consequences can be no less than devistating, but perhaps through this post we _CAN_ pursuade others that activities such as DE's, Autocrosses, and other legal events are just as much fun without the drastic consequences.

Wow - easy guys...

If you dont want to hear about this stuff, dont read it. Obviously its safer to keep it on the track, but there's no need to be going on a crusade because someone starts a lighthearted post.

And I DO still want you to chill out.

I resent your attitude jabbadeznuts. You have no right to tell me to "STFU." That is uncalled for and is very, very stupid to say. I have never said this to anyone on this or any board, but you are truly an idiot.

I do not believe I was on a rampage. (Who was the one who said someone should STFU? Not I.) What some people consider to be fun is in fact stupid and dangerous. It is not fun for those who die or loose a loved one. I was merely backing up this fact with proof.

Sharing 'fun racing' stories glamourizes street racing. There are many young and impressionable people who visit this board. I obviously don't mind talking about street racing: while I am against it, I have had many open dialogues with those who street race. These past dialogues were done in a mature manner: such maturity obviously escapes you.

So, unless you wish to conduct yourself is a more mature manner, I believe it is YOU who needs to chill out.

Now, to all you street racers: let's talk about it. I will not go on any rampage or tear into you. (I didn't go on a rampage in my first post here!) I would like to know why street racing is so alluring and perhaps we can open a dialoge: maybe others and myself can convince you there are better venues for racing.

Regards,
-Zoltan.

Hey I think you need to relise something. The thread revolves around the race not were it takes place. I am for one not going to let you lecture me about what can happen when street racing or just plain speeding. Maybe you should look more against drunk drivers who cause almost 98% more deaths then street racing does. Around here every friday night if we want to race we can race for free at the local airport. Witch is illigal but the owner rather have us there then on the street's. The cops also don't mind because the airport there is nothing to hit. We also don't allow many drivers or suspend (temp if its something little) them from driving there for being idiotic when driving. If you don't think I know what can happen when street racing that is your opinion but the same things can happen when going the speed limit on back roads witch around here takes the car to the limit (If you stay in your lane witch, I always do with so many blind turns) I have lost 7 friends to car accidents, 2 being hit by drunk drivers, One more being hit by a semi truck when leaving the school parking lot when he ran a redlight. Two more (Brothers) to a cement mixer truck when he was going to turn onto a road and didnt see the truck coming. Then the most recient was 2 girls that lost control when speeding crossed the road and hit a semi truck that was drivin by another good friend. Also 4 other friend's hurt a few years ago in this wreak http://enquirer.com/editions/1999/05/19/loc_five_lebanon.html

I'm backing Z on this one as well.

quote:
All I was saying was why not talk about it.

Because we'll end up just like every other "car club" forum.

I GUARENTEE you anyone who has wrecked or died while street racing never once thought "hey, I'm about to wreck or die." They all think they know everything about and can handle their car in every situation, but the fact is that's just not the case.

And I'll tell you another reason why. (I haven't posted this yet because I didn't want to until now) ... Why do street racers **** me off? Because they give sports car a bad name - because THIS PAST Monday I got a ticket for "Willful Speed Competition" -- aka RACING, for doing nothing wrong except turning a corner quickly and accellerating. I was following my friend home and he turned and his tires squeeked a bit, then I turned (didn't squeek) and when we got to his apartment and parked 5 cops showed up immediately, called upon by the unmarked patrol car that followed us home. After being humiliated and treated like criminals (my friend got frisked, I didn't) and after sitting in the car with the police officer and talking to him (my friend went first, I waited then he came and got me), he realized that we weren't at all racing. He said that he can't change the ticket because it's already been written out/called in, but for us to come up to him at the court date and he will take us to talk to the DA and get us out of the ticket. Which BETTER happen because unless I was misinformed, I will lose my license if we are convicted of this class 2 misdemeanor.

If it wasn't for stupid street racers putting cops on edge (and on edge RIGHTFULLY so) that policeman wouldn't have "perceived" us as racing and I wouldn't have to deal with this crap now. The police man admitted that he thought we were racing because Eric turned the corner quick, then I came soon behind him. After talking with both of us (seperately) he did all but apologize and guarentee us he'd get us out of the ticket. So I'm not worried, and actually I'm relieved to have actually had an honest policeman who's not afraid to swallow his pride and admit he was wrong. He was an older gentleman and probably has to deal with alot of Civics tearing around town. In that respect, I don't blame him for what he did. I shouldn't have put myself in a situation that could even have been PERCEIVED as something such as racing.

All that to tell you I don't care about race stories, some are even stupid/funny (AMAF??). If you accellerate to the limit and that's it, more power too you. Odds are it won't stop there though, unless you have great self restraint.

I'll tell you what though. If anyone I care about dies at the hand of a "street racer" I'll hunt that person down.

when are we all going to realize that this argument is sooooooo played? check the archives for Z-Man and street racing, you'll never change his mind. i suggest that when this type of thread gets started one of two things should happen:

1. Z-man, just pass it by like it isn't there. you are not going to change anyones mind about this.

2. when Z-Man inevitibly does post on the thread, nobody respond to his post. you are not going to change his mind about this.

everone has an opinion on this subject, but to me it is like religion or politics, either way your point is moot to the other person, just let it lie!

I guess the cops here in colorado are different. I got pulled over one night because someone called the cops on me for "racing". The cop just said if I want to race go out to the sticks and do it but just not in the city.
