The Polk DX series is the top of the line, but the EX2540 component set is 1 nothch down, and is very close to the quality. I have a Kenwood KDC-715s cd head unit, pre-amp outs, remote, black mask face. Since no power wires in the car, I cannot show you the face on it. It is a nice clean look, and the diplay is whiteish blue, perfect to compliment the new LED gauge install. More pics later.

The 4X6 in the rear just replace it, and splice in your amp. Also, I have had questions about my fiberglass cubby 8" sub boxes. After about 1 month of use (then the fire) they did start to vibrate a bit. More of a resonance at certain bass hits. I have sent them of to a fiberglass shop who is making some molds and adding a thicker layer of glass. I am also going to try and make some out of MDF. I the long run, the MDF enclosures are probably better. I think some more power to my subs might crack them again. Right now 2 Kicker Solobaric 8" at 200watts RMS each split them rather quick. They will each have 300watts RMS to tighen them up a touch. I'll let you know when I get them both in.
Back to the garage.. well.. not tonite!

Oh christ that's funny...I hate losing my glasses on my head. Nice work with them componants, they look the way they should (not there). I'll add this thread to this of stuff I've got over at my kinda lame but steadily improving site that I'll now pimp.

I bought some of the Polk components to replace my front speakers. I will be powering them with an Alpine head unit (20 watts rms). Can I reuse the stock speaker wire? Will it carry the additional power?
In the back I'm thinking going with a pair of Polk 6x9's in small boxes, held together by an alumimum bar (I don't want to spend the money on subs and an amp, but do need SOME bass). Again 20 watts rms. Can I tie into the stock wiring here? If I decide to reuse the stock wiring, I'll obviously bypass the fader.

hey how about the blaupunkt replacement? crutchfield sells them, and they should fit
they have the cheaper 4x6 PCxt462 which are 1-5/8" (1.625 exact fit)
and the slightly more expensive 4x6 PCxi462 which are 1-11/16" (1.6875)
i think im gonna order 1 set of the xi's, and if i cant get them to fit in the front ill throw (i use the term throw very loosely considering what a pain in the *** it must be to take those panels off) them in the back and order some xt's for the front
also i hear the xi's have tweeter protrusion.. but.. you can always use the grills they come with!
well see...

I'll throw in a word or two....
Crutchfield is an online AUTHORIZED retailer for the items that they sell....in otherwords they carry the factory warranties!! I have yet to find another online only retailer that carries warranties. This may not seem so important for a set of speakers, but once it gets into the thick with head units and amps, go with the authorized sellers of products. For the money MB Quart/Polk/Boston and other high end audio, consider Infinity:KAPPA 462.5CFP

There is very little modification to get this in the front, small plastic spacers and pulling the panel out a touch and they will fit. It is inevitable to do some mods if you want to get a high quality speaker into the fronts here.
For that matter consider Cadence, I love the quality of their mid range speakers! Get one in your hand and you will know what I mean. The CSC461 is not made anymore, but it would be a really good choice.

I'd like to put a plug in for the Eclipse (Fujitsu Ten) speakers I have in mine. Dont remember the model number, but about $99/pr. They sound scrumdiddilyumptious.

Wow, this thread has been going on a long time. Sean, you asked if the stock grills fit on my MBQuarts, Yes they did, I might even have a picture of them some place. Thing is even though the MB Quart were the best 4X6 I heard, they are still only 4X6 and there is only so much you can get out of a 4X6. I have a lot of money invested in my system, (its all Nakamichi) the speakers were the low point so I have upgraded to Nakamichi's new component speakers. Best money I have ever spent. The 5 1/2" mid can fit in the factory door cut out with a slight build out and cover with the grill for the 6 1/2" mid. The tweeter sit on the dash above the air vents and wires are routed around the vent so there is no cutting anywhere and can be put back to original if I ever sell my car. The crossovers are fairly large but are easily placed under dash. I can provide pics if anyone is interested.
