Yeah, this hurts, but it's for the best:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=170355050866
My reserve is 6000. I bought this car for 10,500 and have done nothing but maintenance - no mods, no racing. The reserve is low because I'm being realistic about the market and the economy and I'm not really interested in sitting on it for a whole year just to eke out those last couple bucks. This car deserves to stay on the road and be returned to the 944 community, not sit and slowly rot.
If anyone is looking for an S2 that can be used on a daily basis, this is it. Everything that keeps it from being reliable has been addressed. See the list below. It's solid, reliable, stock, and in very good condition. It gets me to work and back every day, and makes me look good doing it. It's been a great car, and this is a great community. I just need to pay off some college loans right now, and I'd like to do a bit of racing in the near future, maybe some rallycross. And this is not the car to turn into a racer when it has so much usefulness left in it. The buyer of this car, if willing to do regular oil changes and check ups, will get a car that will serve them very well for a very long time. Nothing is built like a Porsche, and I can say that with confidence about this particular vehicle.
The good:
- New OEM Sachs spring center clutch
- New OEM Clutch master and slave cylinders
- Rebuilt ball joints
- Rebuilt water pump
- Rebuilt '91 head including new valve guides and seals, new oil pressure relief valve, new cam chain tensioner upper section and new chain, all new lifters - 1500 trouble-free break-in miles already on new head
- new spark plugs wires and distributor
- new voltage regulator
- new fuel pressure regulator
- cleaned injectors
- re-built DME relay
- Fresh timing and balance belts
- Engine oil seals refreshed
- All vacuum lines replaced
- Recent transmission fluid change - Mobil 1 Synthetic
- Excellent paint and interior condition, overall
- All major wear items replaced or updated
The bad:
- Rock chips on the front - normal wear
- Minor paint scratches as shown in the photos, no metal exposed
- Cracks in the dash
- some of the leather on the shifter is splitting
- 2nd gear syncho is slightly worn - hard to notice unless it's the first shift on a cold day

I just don't get it....do not enough people realize how much fun these cars are?
If properly maintained, they are also very reliable.
The OP's car is "worth" far more than $6k.....heck...people out there are paying $6k for used mini-vans.
I think what's really hurting values is that we're starting to see used boxsters out there for
$12k....bahhhh.

And I saw a very nice 944 cabriolet go for $5000 on ebay a few days ago.
Not saying it's not worth every penny you're asking. The market is tough right now.

Thanks for the support guys!
I sat down and thought it over very hard - If someone came to me and said "I can only give you X for this 944, will you sell to me?", what would X be? 6000. Anything less and I would be insulted. I'd hate to give it away for a mere 6000, but we all know it's foolish to look at cars as some sort of "investment" that we're going to "recoup", so I have to be realistic. Picking a selling price is all about the balance between how fast you want it to sell, and how much you want to make. I (hopefully, but we'll see) moved that slider in favor of speed over profit. And remember, that's just the reserve price on ebay. If I had chosen a different (non-auction) outlet to sell the car, I probably wouldn't have posted it at the lowest price that I will go to.
Anyway, if someone does end up winning the auction for just over 6k, I'll shake his hand and wish him all the best with what is undoubtedly a great car!
The auction ends Sunday, so we'll see!

For what it's worth I'll be in the Milwaukee area the week after next, if it is still for sale I can probably check it out for a potential buyer. I've had two S2s and have done a fair bit of work on them.
I kind of want the car, I had a Dove Blue 89 S2 and it was a great car, fun DD and AutoX/Time Trials car. I cannot justify it though. If I had the time and money to do regular track days it'd be a good choice for that role.
