Default crank woodruff key

OK, the two in the balance shafts were cake, the one in the crank is not coming out. I have used the front cutting snips, screw drivers, etc. with no luck. I am going to try a larger pair of front cutting snips than I had today, but if that fails...

1. can I just grind the exposed part down to free the gear or does the key actually protrude laterally into the gear?

2. where can I buy another one?

3. are there any other methods that I am missing?

end cutters work nicely on it.

ace hardware/true value carry keys.

home depot/menards/lowes might carry a small selection too.

pb blaster overnight. then dry it off, and try the end cutters. either that or a small light hammer and a flathead screwdriver are all i have ever needed.

No, they are crescent shaped and much easier to remove. I have reused those every times I've removed them.

You have to pull all the gears off the crankshaft before you can remove the key.

My PO or his mechanic mashed mine pretty well. I had to take a very small cold chisel and tapped in a groove on both sides of the key, then a pair of long handle side cutters gripped in those grooves (my radiator was out, so it was easy with the long handle). Got a replacement from Paragon for $2
