replacing oil pressure sender

replacing oil pressure sender
I'm replacing the oil pressure sender on my 86 951. The sender I got did not come with a seal/gasket and the company I got it from says its does not need one. Is this true? If it is, should I put some kind of sealer on the threads?

I would not use any type of sealent. You need to get the copper/aluminium washer. IT SHOULD COME WITH THE SENDER. If you can't get anywhere. Send it back, and buy one from these guys. $50. 1-877-4GERMAN. Dave or Mark. I won't tell you to use the old one.....
Good luck

Just seconding the crush washer comment - it does use a copper crush washer. You should be able to source this locally... may be 12mm ID, but you should measure to be sure. Do_not reuse the old washer, and don't use a thread locker.

The company I bought the part from said that the parts diagrams do not show any seal/gasket/washer for the sender. I also called the dealer and they said the same thing. They recommended using RTB red if leaking was a problem. I then checked the PET myself and did not see any seal listed. However, I looked at the porsche repair manual and it says there is supposed to be an "18 x 24 seal". Who's right? This is just a gut feeling, but without some type of seal I think its going to leak and RTB seems like a short term fix.
I guess I'll try to find a crush washer at a hardware store. What exactly is a crush washer? Just a regular washer made out of a soft metal (copper)?

Yes, or aluminum - but copper is more common, and probably easier to find locally.

Thanks for the info Skip and Overboost.
Sorry, I did not mean to imply I thought you guys were wrong with the "who's right" comment. I thought it needed a seal so it would not leak and when I tried to find the part I was just a little annoyed that the supplier and even Porsche told me that it doesn't need one.
Thanks again.
