Hey Tim--
Give us a run down on the differences in drive and ride for us unlucky 944 n/a owners who only dream. Also: auto or manual? options?
I have a thing for rears too and the 928 takes it, but the 968 is of course a close second. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
Awesome deal--congrats

B,
As soon as it stops snowing round here I will put it through the paces. I already know from the test race, er I mean drive, that the handling is firm,but not as crisp as the 44. It is an auto,and as stated it has a lot of torque!It just feels heavy as you would expect,but I knew that going in. The feeling when you kick it down is awesome,and the V8 roaring is a plus. I'll keep ya posted.

Very nice combo! I would like to hear more 928 driving impressions also. Keep us posted.
My parents have a neighbor with a 928. It is a 1979 model with 89,000 original miles. For the past 20 years, the thing has sat in a covered carport (not garage) and has been driven very rarely. There's a layer of dust covering it!
The owner is getting up there in age (in his 70's) and has mentioned more than once to my Dad that he would like to sell it to me. I'm hoping to take it for a test drive in the next couple of weeks. It would be a fun project, since my NA 944 restoration is almost complete.
My only hesitation is the cost of maintenance. No telling what would be involved in making this particular car road ready. (First step will be to peel off the cobwebs!)

My dad and I test drove a 928S a few months ago, for fun.
Compared to the 944:
* HEAVIER!
* Slightly cushier
* Thunderous sound (especially with a Borla)
* FASTER! (Beastly torque)
944 = sporting car
928 = GT car
Sean, if you have two other reliable cars, there is no reason why you shouldnt restore that 928.

Any more pics yet? I am curious, where did you find the car? Was it advertised, or one of those deals you "stumble" upon? Could you get S4's with a 5 speed? I would like to add an S4 or a GT to my stable someday.

I won't have any more pix until this weekend when I take possession of the car. I will post them on this thread when I get a chance.
I stumbled across it in the once a week local paper and the car was in the neighborhood. As far as I could tell,he didn't advertise it anywhere else,although he did mention e-bay as a price reference.
The 87 S4 is available in a 5 speed as well. There are good links in the 928 rennlist section under new owners topic.

That's a terrific car. I am envious as hell.
I detest white cars as a rule. I would never own one... unless it was a 928. That white does make it look just like a damn shark... that has rolled its eyes back for the kill.
CHOMP.
I want one...

I like them too.. the ultimate nod to the torque god. The heads on the 32V are the SAME as our 16v heads. We share a lot of parts. As a matter of fact, I think I've got some 928 brakes, and I like them very much, thank you. The thing about the 928 that made me say "Holy Sheet" was seeing the passenger side floor panel out. There is 3x the normal amount of fuses and wiring under there. TONS. It's got all kinds of techno doo-dads, like air conditioned fuel coolers, dual stage windshield washers, active radiator louvers, and an adjustable rear wing. Read the owners manual.. It is the first thing they recommend on the 928 board. They answer a lot of silly questions over there.. Uneducated owners trying to figure out complex machines.
Nice Car!
