I bought some audiobahn 4x6 plates that fit the doors perfectly, an MTX 10" sealed sub, and a 4-way audiobahn amp (bridged for the sub). I installed it in about two hours, with the blau HU and changer from my toyota.
It sounds great.
A few tips:
run your own speaker wire (16g or better monster or equivalent). The 22g zinc wire that's in most cars stock is crap.
When wiring the amp from your battery, run the line through the antenna grommet (above and to the left of the battery, with a thin wire running through it), and reach under the dash from the side near the vents to find the wire.
Run power lines at least two feet away from speaker and rca lines.

I have a brand new, never taken out of the box, audiobahn A4401Q, that I'll sell for $100. Very high sound quality a true 50W RMS, or 140W bridged (many companies like sony, run their amps at 14V or higher when determining the wattage).

I have the little Kappa plates in front and they sound beautiful - much better than the Kappa 6.5 seperates I have in my WRX.

hey rcldesign, how did you get your kappas in the doors?
I have some in my Acura that I was thinking of moving over to the Porsche, but they were just too deep to get in the door without blocking the window.
Also, how's that empeg? I was watching them religiously when they were in the design stage, but when they listed the MSRP, I stopped.
I ended up building my own.

Kappas fit by putting littly nylon spacers between the speaker and the surrounding plate on the inside.

I didn't want to do it that way, because I kick the speakers getting in and out as it is. My kappas have a depth of over 3", while the door has a depth of about 1.5".
Mostly though, I was too worried about having to cut the door and trim.

door and trim gets cut, and re-upolstered (I did mine in leather); the speaker sticks out (the amount of the shroud that is required to put the grill on, no further)

Heres what i did with mine, and i have been VERY happy with the sound. put a 4" component in the front door panels, these fit PERFECTLY in the old 4x6 slot as the tweeter was mounted on a plate along wiht the cone. in the rear speaker compartments, i put in a 6.5" component system, tweeters about a foot above of them, then i have two 8" subs in the rear cargo area. I highly recommend this setup. It highs are VERY crisp, and the lower bass tones are great...

Here's the link to download my software, in case you'd like to try it out.
Eventually I'll make a nifty how-to for the non-computer geek to install by, but between work, school, and play, there's no time.

slevy951, regarding the enclusure, what is the volume you get out of that enclosure. Which JL's is he using?

Here is a sample of requirements in sealed enclosures for the 8" JL's.

Model 8W3v2 0.30-0.50 cu.ft.
Model 8W0 0.30-0.60 cu.ft
Model 8W7 0.875 cu. ft.

the point I tried to make was not regarding the quality of your build or product, it was regarding making an one size fits all enclosure. I would be more than willing to help you build one with a specific series and performance subwoofer that is designed to work at it's best inside that enclosure. It's like putting 21" mags on a minni. Hey bigger mags should give better handling but you end up doing more good than bad. By "tuning" your enclosure you can in most cases double the sound quality and performance of your subwoofers.

Anyway I could go on forever on this topic. Drop me a line and I can help crunch some numbers for you so you can "port match" or "flow match" your enclose for a series speaker.

The box is .3ft^3. Yes, I did build it with the RF driver in mind. Yes, I did put it thru a design program. So, you never answered my question. Have you every seen or heard my product?

I had custom door panels made for my car with Dyne Audio mids and highs. I have a Nakamichi deck in the space where the pocket was with a din sized changer mounted right above it so it's at your fingertips. In the back in the space of the spare tire, I have a JL Audio 10" sub. Powered by a Phoenix Gold ZX 450 amp. It's a few years old but it sounds great. The door panels are great and if your a do it yourselfer, I think they can be done reasonably well. I just paid for the R&D on the install. The changer setup was a bitch and took a ton of time so I wouldn't recommend trying it. Then again some of you guys can do it all. I have pics and as soon as I can figure how to convert the pics to jpegs I'll have them up.

yeah i went for infinity Kappa 4x6s in the front (the ones with a separate circular cone and tweet, not a single eliptical cone) using the standard holes (bit of a stretch, but it fits--need to make my own grills, though).

since i have an 87, i had room for 6.5s in the rear. i took out the 4x6 and the mounting bracket in the rear (which was a pain to get out, but possible), then used the mounting bracket and the 6.5 to draw up a template for a new bracket to fit the 6.5, and then i machined a couple new brackets from the templates.

by machining, i mean bolting two sheets of aluminum between two wood blocks and jigsawing through the whole stack.

sounds great, looks stock!
