Default Distributor Cap

1986 951 Porsche

How do you take off the distributor on my 944 turbo? I am afraid i am going to break it.

I noticed there is two screws, but they don't turn freely. Any help would be appreciated.

PS the picture below numbers are not the firing order. just for refrence on the wires.

thanks jpc

www.clarks-garage.com there is a guide.

Basically, you have to push the screws in hard, then turn them a half turn. They are actually springloaded hooks, they latch inside. Youll feel them spring out, and thats when you know theyre loose.

yeah, it's really weird - and the screw on the bottom is a beyotch to get to the right leverage and force to push it in and turn it.

Stubby screw driver with a pair of vice grips clamped to the handle.

Then you can push in with whatever it takes with one hand, and easily rotate with the vice grips. I don't really need that to take it off, but it helps a lot on the way back on.
