Post why!!

if all of your shells look that good, and you had good oil pressure before i wouldnt waste your money those shells and crank journals have been faithfull friends for years why seperate them, you could do more harm than good. We have a saying where I come from dont fix it if its not broke.

I've heard that saying here too, but it doesn't apply to my car. What about belts, and water pumps? Leave them until they break?

In my opinion, it makes sense to check them on higher-mile engines, especially if you are already in there. The cost of replacement is low. Where's the risk, if they are changed by a good mechanic?

I find preventative maintenance goes a long way on these cars, especially if you are planning to keep them.

of course maintenance is neccessary on any car, the point is that if you disturb mechanical devices for no reason ie putting new parts with old and going through the running in proccess all over again, unnecessary risks are being taken.I dont think any one would dispute timing belts etc have a limited life span therefore have to be replaced on a routine basis.
