My roommate has a 97 Kia (I think thats the year) which I had to replace the alternator on, horrible design...(fun time getting it back on). The A/C will only turn on by use of a hammer as well...which I don't believe I got back when she moved out...hmm.
The paint on the car was pretty bad as well, I've seen cars from 97 without wax/car washes (mainly chevy trucks) and they look better than the clearcoat-degrading paint of the Kia Sephia!

We had a Kia Spectra rental car on my last trip to Houston and besides having decent legroom I don't have a single good thing to say about it. We floored it at a stoplight and an 18 wheeler pulling about 20 cars was pulling away from us...priceless.

OMG YES, I always felt I could sprint as quick as the car accelerated. Not to mention the bicycle thin tires! hah. And actually, another car I don't like is Ford Escort. My dad was given a rental on his visit here, had all of 18k miles on a 2dr Escort. Already the car had a messed up idle, it was about 200-300 rpm too low and shook the entire car....QUALITY! haha.

Defects per 100 vehicles. Lower is better.

When they break down the sub companies (like Lexus and Buick from Toyota and GM), we're only fourth place.

Maybe Porsche has better quality right off the showroom floor, but I would rather have a poorly maintained Toyota or Honda than a poorly maintained Porsche (i.e. mine when I bought it) in terms of quality and costs.
