What is the best way to remove tint?
#4
I had to use some soap and water in a spray bottle on my Mustang years ago. I think the soap/water helps to release the glue bond of the tint. Then on my rear hatch (which had the defroster as well) I just had to get a piece started and hope for the best.
But like above a razor of some sort will get corners started for you. There's no easy way to get tint off.

I tried this tip from a local tint shop last summer and it worked o.k. on what very well could have been 15 year old blue tint. (not pretty)
Here goes:
Park the car in a warm and shady spot. (sun makes the solution dry too quickly)
Take a large black plastic trash bag and cut it into large squares. Next, spray a solution of simple green all over the tint and apply the squares to the tint surface. They should stick there for a while as the solution works to soften the tint.
Remove the tint with the careful use of a razor blade and a plastic spatula thing normally used for bondo work. . You really need to get a good corner started and hope you can pull it for more than an inch or two. Towards the end I was lucky if I could get a good 1/2 inch strip before it broke.
I tried this on the hottest most humid day of the year. It took me 4 hours to get 98% of the tint off. After that I had a horrible adhesive residue left which required a lot of muscle to remove. If you look carefully you can still see traces of tint next to the defroster lines.
It is by far the most miserable time I have ever spent working on a car.
Hopefully yours will just peel off in one big sheet!
Good Luck!

Snipsa's got it right. Spray full strength glass cleaner on the film ,cover it with plastic. Repeat every 1/2 hr or so. The solution has to work through the polyester film. Works best in direct sun. Patience, Patience,Patience.

Get a corner started and spray a solution of Amonia and water (the stronger the better)behind the tint. Be patient once you get it started go slow and keep spraying! The idea is to get it off in one sheet, once it starts getting split into pieces your screwed. Have a towel at bottom of window to catch runoff. Clean remaining residue with amonia and water.

best stuff to get the residue off? 3M adhesive remover - simply spray on and wipe off. sure it takes a little elbow grease, but i have removed window tint from two of my 944s in this manner. the door and quarter windows took about 15 minutes each including removing the tint paper (i did remove the door panel for access).
the rear hatch is a sincere PITA and the only way i know is by using a razor blade one painful inch at a time as stated by the guys above. fortunately i only had to do this once.
