Can't remember if it was Pete, Wade or who @ the 944Fest, but they made an interesting point. In order to get a good deal, you need to be able to make you offer and walk away when they don't accept it (hard has anything to do though). The hopeful ending being that they call you after thinking about what money they have in your offer vs. the money the might get later down the road. They said it worked for them pretty good.

Jason, if they've been sitting on the car for a year they will eventually give in. Stick to your price and leave it in their hands. The car is costing them money sitting on the lot. You have the upper hand in the deal. Give them your final price and tell them the offer is good for one week and then you're shopping elsewhere. I'll bet that they'll take it.

BTW- Who did the paint on your 924? I may be looking for a paint job in the next year or so and yours is beautiful.

I talked to the General sales manager this morning and basically told him I thought we were too far apart on money. He told me he wanted to check into creative financing (terms longer than 5 years). I told him no way I was going to finance longer than 5 years on a 99'. I told him that my offer was the final offer. I expect that he will call me back with his alternatives anyway, but I'll have to walk.........sigh....

BTW...All of the prep on my car was done by myself, but the actual paint was shot onto the car by my next door neighbor. I then spent ~20 hrs. wet sanding and buffing. All in all I have about $1400 in the paint and all new seals and gaskets.

interesting - thats been on their lot for a YEAR? wow - didn't realize. i drove that car 2 weeks ago - the price is GREAT but my g/f can't drive a clutch (yet- see related topic posts...arrgh!) so until thats solved we're in the market for a tip as it would be her car.

i couldn't find any issues with that car either and i LOVE the mirage/black supple leather combo and its LOADED, too -cd changer, litronics, supple, big wheels, etc...nice.

good luck on that car - the only thing i'd do to it would be new lugs (the present ones are rusty) and new hub centers as the present ones are a bit faded. but no wheel rash or door dents at all!

i'm just skeptical that its been there for a YEAR - that true? they said that it was a northland car originally - and they DO havea alll the records from day one....hhhhhmmmmm - the price is falling like a rock - goooooood luck!!!!

Cory, that was me talking about the deal on my 951 and agonizing over "walking away." I'd heard from some good negotiators that you have to be willing to walk away from a deal to get a good one, and that you can tell when the seller's interest starts to tail off when they aren't going to go for your price. The "agonizing" part is getting a feel for how much time should elapse between you walking away and them calling you back. That is your dilemma Jason my friend, and I hope it works out the way you wish. Good luck. If not, you know there is a certain car waiting for you when a certain somebody dies...........

How much was it when you looked at it? I'll agree, the color combo is gorgeous. New wheel lugs & centers definately. Also, the A/C would not get cold on it. Aside from that very nice car. I did find where 1 wheel had been curbed and repaired.

Yeah, I'm hoping that they will come back to me, but I am a realist too. They say that they are loosing 4k on the car at the 39,9k price and I want it for 35k. Probably ain't gonna happen!

BTW...I would like a new clutch in it when you die. LOL!

ah - see...you looked at it a LOT closer than i did. the first thing i check is wheel rash - but not with a microscope on the first go-round! - i put about 6 miles on it that day and its tight. didn't have the a/c on that day as i was listening to the motor, etc...i think it was 38k but when i said we were going to lunch to talk about it (true...i was attempting to talk my g/f into the stick instead of the tip...) he (george laird) said: "well...make us an offer" and my interest piqued. regardless, we decided that nancy has some clutch-learnin' to do OR we need to find the right tip.

i checked their website the other day and was surprised that it was still there at that price and assumed that it had been sold and the site not updated. anyway - i think the price is REALLY fair, BUT even with that price the a/c should be fixed (along with everything else - if there IS anything else to be fixed...) before i'd take delivery. the other advantage you have is that this would be your 'home' dealer as i would have been taking it to DC and dealing with a dealer here for warranty service, etc...you can go back to the horses mouth. i'd suggest talking to the original owner, too - he's local i'd guess and remember - they have all the paperwork and it was their car from the beginning, so they should be willing to hook you two up.

So they said make them an offer...huh? Well I did at 35k and they didn't like it, didn't even counter. He (Steve - GM) said that 39,9k was the price. Maybe I looked at the car too hard and pissed them off...Dunno. They definately still have the car and I expect they will for a while. Bummer is that I have 2 other coals in the fire. One is for an 03' Cobra Anniversary Ed. and the other is an 03' Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT. I'm gonna drag my feet for a week and see if I hear back from Northland.

i'd hold out - just like everyone has said. if its meant to be it'll happen.....funny, tho - we're looking at the G35 coupe, too! GREAT car. IMHO, not as sexy as a 911, but really impressive.

still can't figure out why they've had it for a year, tho...hhhhmmm.....

I like the G35, too. that is a nice ride. The Cobra kinda leaves me cold. It is a Ford after all.
Have you thought about a pristine 968? Helluva car and money left over.

Cause the market is TOUGH right now. Try to sell a used car these days - good luck! Good news if you're a buyer, though. The market is flooded with cars, top of the range to the bottom.
