Hello,
the factory manual isn't very clear on setting the timing on the 944 S2. I've searched the forum but could't find a detailled procedure.
Correct me if I'm wrong;
With cilinder one at TDC the camsprockets should have 7 links between the markers on the cam.
Then set up the dails and with the procedure in the manual set up the cam timing. The #1 intake valve should have 1.4 mm lift at TDC.
Regards,
Ralf

What I do is make the flywheel mark and cam sprocket mark matching and then perform the change of rollers and belts. With S2 the only thing you can do 'wrong' is the tension of the balance shaft belt.

JakeS2, the OP is talking about the setting up the timing chain on the cams, not the timing belt.
No, I don't have a pointer to a good resource on this beside the factory service manual (which you obviously have), but someone here might be able chime in.

No. this is the value for the S, M44.40 engine. You need to look at Manual Vol1A-Engine, page 15-104a. the value is changed for the S2 engine M44.41 to 0.75mm.
Many of the popular downloads of this manual do not have pages 15-101 and 102 making the information on page 103 incomplete. If you need these two pages send me a PM.

From practice a visual with the picture in the manual is enought to get the cams alligned correctly. Also the number of chain links should be correct. If you get the wrong links number the visual match will not fit. The procedure in the manual seems to be very difficult to follow even if you have the right tools.

Here's a link to Clark's Garage with the 16v cam installation procedure. http://www.clarks-garage.com/pdf-manual/cam-04.pdf
