For people that have had a bad DME Relay
#18
Well gentlmen, I have found the problem. The DME relay was not the blame, but the contacts for the harness to DME itself was a little corroded. Sprayed some contact cleaner on the brushed them with a toothbrush and everything was good. It makes me wonder if my car ever tried to play U-Boot. Because I have all these odd electrical problems, corrosion, and an odd greenish ring at equal height about an inch above the interior floor. Makes me wonder....

From: Central Illinois. Cornfields a plenty.
I resoldered mine- works fine ever since.. if your not afraid of a few hours work... resolder your old (spare) ONE.
I was thinking of picking up a spare and re-tracing the circuits and perhaps building new boards (better substrates) and newer technology components.. so far my estimate is about 55$ in parts.. ABOUT 10 BUCKS FOR VAPOR PHASE REFLOW. Would far surpass the original technology and with mil-spec parts it would be bullet-proof.
keep in mind- in 1988 when mine was original I was using DOS 5.. think about the technology improvements since then.
Could I get in trouble from Porsche for de-engineering and recreating this?
