Thanks for the pics Skip.
However, My car has been blowing heat only and the clip / rod on my car seems to be ok (looks just like in the pic). Any other reasons for hot air?

Hey JasonN,
I had the same problem on my car. My car was cooking my a** anytime I drove long enough to get the heater working. There was no problem with the clip. Some guys on the 924 board pointed me to the heater control valve. Sure enough the wire from the cable control had slipped out of the flow controller arm on the heater control valve. So now I know the cause of the constant heat. Only problem now is trying to fix that. The heater control valve is snugly sandwiched behind the engine. I will probably try and fix it when its time to change the antifreeze. In the meantime I just push the slide thing by hand... Let me know if this helps at all.

Funny, I popped the hood and took off the weather flap/strip, near the firewall, tapped on some sonnectors started the car and its not blowing hot air anymore. Hope its not just a temporary fix, but it was the chapest repair I've done on my car yet .

Jason, you can get the same symptoms when the hose to the heater vacuum reservoir breaks off or becomes disconnected. It's a plastic cannister about 6" long next to the battery. Might be that, cost me about $20 to get a new one.

I had the same problem. Heat all the time. the clip was fine and the heater control valve looked to be working. I bought a new valve from Paragon (Shameless Plug!!) for around $11 and that fixed the problem. The old heater valve would open and close with vacuum but it was still letting hot coolant get through. The new one shut tightly so nothing would pass through when closed. Even if yours looks like it's working it may be worth replacing. For less than $15 with shipping you can't go wrong.
