Default Starter nut spins, but doesn't move.

Weird wording I know. On the starter's smaller post the nut there won't move up and down but just spins in place. Is there a trick to removing nuts like this? Will I have to find some way to hack saw it off?

I'm at the point where I have to remove the torque tube and clutch bellhousing, and this is slightly slowing me down, having to work around this for now.

If the post is spinning, the solenoid is toast. You've twisted the post loose.

Remove however it's easiest (it'd cut the wire and put another ring terminal on it after replacing the solenoid or getting the starter rebuilt).

Thanks for the quick response!

The post itself doesn't spin, just the nut. I figure I may just cut the wire anyway, but I have an idea that may remove it (crossing my fingers it'll work).

*runs off to try it*

Oh..so you probably just have a stripped post. The solenids come off reasonably easy if you have a hand impact driver, and they are only like $25 or so if I recall.

Quick Reply: Starter nut spins, but doesn't move.
