Default S2 front suspension and late turbo suspension

From what I've read, I gather the front struts for any late model (87+) 944 will fit an S2... correct?

The S2 suspension share many parts with the late turbo suspension, and yet they have different part #s for the factory struts. What's the story with that? There seems to be _something_ different about the S2 struts, but I've never been able to figure quite what the difference is...

Just curious.

I think the S2 struts are the same as Turbo S and 968 struts. These struts are designed to accomodate smaller diameter springs used in S2. Otherwise all other dimensions are the same.

The Turbo S uses the M030 struts, which I think are the same as the S2 M030 struts, but different from the normal S2 struts. M030 struts are height adjustable coil over type.

And yes S2 and 87+ used same struts (non M030).

I think the late Turbo (non S) struts are the same as the S2 (ie 87 and 88 models). Perhaps the difference in part numbers is (presumably) because of the different spring and/or damper rates.
