Hello Sysgen,
How did you do it? I may run into the same issue and would like a solution before I am on my back, under the car with only a few inches to work with.

I used a hammer and re-shaped the aluminum shielding. This gave me the few millimeters needed to rotate it in place.

Side note, on mine the threading on the flange did note match the threading of the stock bolt, had to find another bolt for some reason.

A little video of before and after.

How are these starters holding up.
Was cranking the engine the other week to build oilpressure and voila after 3 years standing the starter went boom with smoke after a few short bursts . So i think this starter looks good but would like a little feedback from users that had it for a while

7 years no trouble in my 941, and 5 years no trouble in the Club Sport.

I got mine on the original group buy and it's been flawless.

I have even used it to pull the car onto the trailer a couple of times after other non-starter issues.

We need a core starter from a 968 to ensure fitment. I don't know of any reason that it wouldn't work, but I don't want to advertise that it does until I get a 968 starter in my hands to confirm. Hint hint.

Which is why I only posted my experience and results, and not a dissertation espousing the benefits of these starters. I think the data speaks volume. I've only heard of a single anecdote of failure, as in the comments a few posts above.

Also, bear in mind, HiTorque starters are used in many many applications. So have a look online at the reputation for other makes and models, not just the 944. We try to do our due diligence before approaching manufacturers to make things for us, and I've found very few complaints anywhere with the HiTorque product.

If you get the gear reduction starter to work for 968 with manual transmission, I will be ready to buy in a heartbeat.

I just changed mine last fall, had to send the core back to get my $150 back

Far as I know they are ALL re manufactured now, would be nice to have a new option, that is lighter, better etc.

Post over on the 968 specific forum, I am sure someone has one there.

is the 968 starter different? i'm using the stock late 944/turbo starter with my motor swap, however i'm using an S2 flywheel and bellhousing to make it work with the factory s2 TT and trans.
