Hello from a new guy

I would definitely consider getting it on a racetrack to see what it is capable of. I see in your signature that you have a 968. Now that must be a really nice car to drive.

Jeff,
I only took the car to Ralph's that one time because my mechanic at that time recommended Ralph's for the clutch. It was on the other side of the beltway for me at the time. I have moved even farther away so it is too far to take the car now. I have recently taken my car to SSI on Joppa Road in Towson when I had my timming belt failure. They are another choice for Porsche repairs in the Baltimore area.
Did your PO take your car to Ralph's?

Yes, the previous owner did take the car to Ralph's. He said that he was a nice guy who knows what he is doing. I asked Doug to see if he knew anything about him at all. I know the previous owner pretty well and when I was getting serious about buying the car, he talked to Ralph and said that he would let me watch him do the belts. So I think I am probably going to take the car to him and learn how to do the belts right. Does SSI do good work, and are they reasonable in price? What do you think they would charge to do the belts?
Thanks,
-Jeff.

WOW that's unusal for a mechanic to let you watch them work. I would say that is a great set-up and I would go with that.
I don't know SSI's prices you would have to call them. I have a mechanic I take the car to near where I live for regular maintenance items. It was going to be a month before I seen the car after the timming belt failure if I took it to him because he would have to send the head out and SSI has them there ready to go on the car.

Oh I see. Yes, it is pretty unusual isn't it lol. So I think that I am probably going to go this route and watch so I can learn. Then when the next time the belts are due, I will be able to do them myself hopefully without any issues.
