I wholeheartedly agree that this is a good time to go with camber plates. For LESS than the cost of a new mount, you get camber adjustability.

That said, I have two late strut mounts (71,000 miles on them) sitting in my garage. I replaced them with camber plates. I'll part with them pretty cheap.

can i put an early offset bearing in a late offset mount?
I ordered those last week. About $35 a piece. I'll be tossing them in this weekend. I though I was in for the $450 a piece full mounts (until I called Paragon), at which point I was going to do camber plates because they end up being cheaper.

I would find another shop ASAP, and would never use those idiots again. Front suspension on these cars are about as easy as they get. Either that shop is full of morons, or they're out to take advantage of you.

It takes an hour, tops, to do both sides.

Well, I'm not sure about that. It is the FSM procedure. I'd take it as an indication that they aren't familiar with the car though. Which still leads to find a new shop.

Those bearings are for early offset. which struts does your 85.5 use?

The part for the M030 from the dealer is close to a grand. HA!!

Dont shoot the shop. I asked him off the top of his head what he thought and he said no more than two hours a side. They are not out to screw me. I asked about the air conditioning, they said the compressor is leaking, and rather than pay them to replace it with a compressor they get from a local AC specialist, they gave me his name and number and suggested I cut out the middleman.

He said $650 to replace the compressor, the canister, evacuate and recharge. the system was already converted.

I think i am going to order the KLA plates since the suspension is stock M030 and not get adjustable camber plates. Any thoughts?

Max, after seeing 87's picture, i think i am taking you up on that offer. I think the failed the PPI because of this - a sound i noticed four days ago, and figured was a bad rubber bushing.

what day is good for you? I will get my neighbors air compressor and jack. anyone else want some Rico's or Big Bill's pizza?

I'm early offset with the screw-top struts. That's why I'm getting off easy, according to Paragon.

Well, that all sounds much more reasonable. I still wouldn't shoot a shop for quoting based on the FSM procedure....I'd just look for another who knows better (for this in particular...the FSM is ridiculously overcomplicated for what needs to be done in reality based on the great write ups a couple of listers have done.......I'll know first hand this weekend).

OK, lemme get the procedure straight.

loosen center nut
jack up car
remove wheel
move sway bar out of way
put jack under control arm or rotor
take center nut off
let strut come down and move outwards like in Ben's picture
remove four small nuts and take off plate
install new plate
tighten four small nuts
reverse procedure

Should take less than an hour each side?

I will have some KLA plates off my car next week if you want them, only about 2000 miles (or less) on them.. I going over to ARHK from paragon and some GC adjustable plates I picked up...

Let me know if you haven't ordered yet... make an offer, and I'll ship them as soon as they are off...

SORRY..Jason.. too many purchases going on right now....

Jason @ Paragon... I contacted them regarding the ARHK and it's compatibility with the GC plates (I bought GC plates, not even thinking about spring dia... I'm currently sitting on stock springs... which will not work with the GC plates...) someone offered me the GC plates for what I paid for the KYB plates... for me it was a no brainer... got them next day... new in box... with pretty 2.5 inch hats... hence my shift to the ARHK .... I'm hopeful the 300 lb springs won't be too much for street use

I'm already running and loving ER monoball bushings up front... OMG what a difference...

Well, I got the KLA plates from John yesterday and started to put them in. More like started to take them off. Fortunately Joe came by with his impact wrench.

A bit of B.S.ing and not too much later and we buttoned up the car and took it for a drive.

Not only did it make the same noise, it made more noise.

Drove it today and it started making noise over bumps. Had the guys from the shop on the phone for a while, and got suggestions of what to look for. Spoke to my cousin the recently retired from government motors and got thoughts from him. Joe made a few phone calls and got some other thoughts.

We jacked up the car, and while looking under the car, joe slowly jacking up the strut by the control arm, and me trying to see if i feel the click on this piece or that piece when joe said "give me a 19 with an extension on a 1/2 socket" "what do you see" "just want to try something".....

turns out cross member bolts were loose. guess thats why sometimes it was a click and other times a groan.

Now it is quiet as a church mouse. until the next 944 adventure starts.

Moral:
If she is making noise, make sure you check your nuts, err i mean bolts.
