Why drill the holes? I suppose the cost is zero for one. Just get rid of that big black monsterous box and go with a cone filter. It will really open up that side of the engine compartment.

has anyone made the stock hole that the box leads to for air bigger and stuck a cone filter in there? looks like an obvious way to go....I'm sure it would be popular if it was jsut that easy...

alright, airbox mod completed. i used a hacksaw and a leatherman to cut apart the airbox, then sanded down the rough edges and spray-painted it with 2 coats of high-heat gloss black.

i used the metal frame to an air filter for a furnace (that happened to be the exact same dimensions as the air box) as the inside edge, and some wire mesh as the covering. i made the wire mesh into a big cube without a bottom that was the exact size of the air filter, then stuck it on the filter. i used double-sided tape to mount the metal edges on the inside of the airbox frame, and then put the frame over the filter.

total cost was about $5... thanks to skip for the inspiration. oh, and don't laugh at my paper filter... i'm gonna buy a k&n in the next couple of days, i swear.

opinions?
