Post The art of reading a sparkplug

What, if anything about the condition of the motor can be gathered from interpretation of these plugs?

OK, I'll throw in my 2 cents worth.

It's obvious number 2 is running leaner than the others, probably too lean. I like a nice light brown color, but it's safer to be on the dark side than the light.

Could be an injector that's getting plugged up?

To get an accurate plug read, you should really do a plug chop by reaching the desired throttle opening (say half or wide open, let it pull for a while, then cutting the ignition and taking the engine out of gear asap.

If it's idled for a while, you are only seeing the plugs under that one condition.

It rarely idled. my TPS was DOA so I had to heal and toe it. I would pull into the parking lot and come off the throttle and it would die instantly.

My 2 euro cents (if that is an actual monetary unit) New valve guides and seals.. to much oil in your gas mixture.. It actually started looking that wet? no. 2 looks cooked predetination maybe?

the block is comming apart within the week but those plugs came off a working motor.

Remember the motor has 315 K on it so yes the head needs to be redone

Hmmm, looks more like oil on the #1,3,4 plugs than fuel. I'd try swapping the #1 & #2 fuel-injectors to see if the difference in plug patterns goes with them. That would rule out the #2 fuel-injector being clogged and running lean in that one cylinder alone.

Overall, it really doesn't look that bad. Just do something about the oil in those cylinders as I'm sure there's a lot of carbon built up on the pistons and head as well.
