'87 924S...A little info please
Hello,
It's come to my attention that a friend of mine's neighbor has an '87 924S in his yard that apparently doesn't run. He wants $500 for it, but I don't know the condition of the car yet.
I wanted to see if anybody knows anything about these cars. Such as what the differences between it and a 944 NA as far as engine, suspension, etc goes. Can anybody tell me a little bit about these cars? I'm thinking maybe it might be a good project to use for a track car.
Any thoughts?

It's pretty much the same mechanicals (engine, suspension, tranny) & interior as the pre-'85.5 944.
At that price, I'd expect a broken timing belt or blown clutch. Both fixable, but will likely cost more than the car, even DIY. Then there's all the other stuff that you can't check out unless the car's driveable.
If the belt's not broken, even starting the car may be a risk, depending on the age of the belt. Go very slowly here... But it may very well make a great project car.

Do most of the parts interchange with early 944s? The reason I ask is my son has an '84 944 NA and even if this car itself isn't worth messing with, maybe it's worth it just for the spare parts. With how many regular 924 pieces I hear fit 944s I'd think that this would be the same case?

$500 for a 924S is a deal even if the engine is toast. I'd grab it. As for your sons 944, practically everything swaps over with the possible exception of the electronics for the engine. A lot changed between 84 and 87 as far as I know.
Worse case scenario, you part out the 924S and make a killing selling the parts on eBay! I'd be interested in the Intermittant Wiper Relay, part# 477.955.531.A if you go that route!
Good luck!
