I'm wanting to eventually do a 968 trans w/custom gears- this is mostly a pipe dream at the moment, but I'm hoping to eventually get enough $ together- win the lottery or Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes, etc, even though I don't play EITHER, etc... One of the big probs w/using a 968 trans in the 951 has always been the speedo issue. I know I've read where several people have said that someone somewhere has made it work, but haven't really seen any proof. But, I was wondering- I understand the prob to be: the 951 takes it's reading from the axle while the 968 gets it from the ABS- is this true? If so, could one just install the 968 ABS to a 951? Would that be outrageously expensive? I have a Turbo S, so I have ABS already, and have always assumed that the 968 used the same 3-chan ABS & not a more sophisticated set-up- true? Could this work, or is there a lot more to this than I think?
Thanks,
Robby

Hello
The 968 take its speed signal from the ABS brain on pin 19 of the plug and the signal then go to an Electronic Converter Unit (term from Porsche manual) that is changing the frequency of the signal and goes to the speedo.
The electronic thing is plusgged in the fuse box and is a standard item installed on 964...
Shouldn't be very difficult to install - Just need to check that the brain is internally wired for this pin on 951.
The 968 ABS brain has 944 part number on it so it should be ok...
