Hey guys, I'm new here but I have been reading the topics for the past couple of months. I've done my reading and have learned a lot from everybody here. I know the main problem areas. I have finally gotten serious about buying a 944 na and want to have a Prepurchase Inspection done on a car near Detroit. Does anybody have any suggestions for a mechanic near Detroit?
Thanks all

Check Fred Lavery Porsche in Birmingham. I can't say that it'll be cheap or quick.
Or, you can try calling the local PCA here at (248) 588-8227. Ask for Rol Titsworth, he's a nice older guy who really knows his stuff. His shop might even be able to do the inspection, and I'd trust him over Lavery. If can't do it, he'll certainly get you the info you need...info from an insider.

I've had a few people tell me to specifically *avoid* Fred Lavery. You're car will break down driving out of the repair shop. Just what someone told me no evidence to back it up personally. I use Auto Europe in Birmingham and have had very good luck with them. I'm sure their labor rates are probably a bit cheaper than Fred's also since he is a Porsche dealer. Just my .02.

All the more reason to call the PCA. I have a friend who had a botched PPI at Auto Europe....they missed some significant stuff (alternator and tranny issues) that have his car currently out of commission.
