Post Took the 951 to the drags tonight, have some 1/4 mile nubers

I finally got the chance to take the ole 951 to the 1/4 mile drags tonight at the "Orlando Speedworld" track. Since this was my first time ever really drag racing the car, my numbers are not that good since I had very bad starts off of the line.

On the first race wich was against a modified 99 eclipse gs turbo, I almost bogged out and had a really bad start with a reaction time of 1.290 seconds. But what I lacked off of the line I made up for it in top end. This car really pulls around 50 mph. The eclipse took me off of the line pretty bad but I started to pull away in front of him right until the very end. It was a good race my 1/4 mile was 15.306 secs @ 96.51 mph. I only beat him by .0593 seconds. And here is all of the data: R/T(1.290) 60'(2.641) 330(6.994) 1.8 mile (10.2527) 1.4 mile (15.306s) at 96.51 mph.

Second time around I also had a bad start, not because I bogged out, because I over reved and spinned the tires too much, also I missed a gear when I was shifting, but I still managed to get a 1/4 mile run of 15.394 secs at 96.18 mph. Both time where ver close and all of the data from both runs were almost identical.

Overall, I was very pissed off at my self the the times sucked. I think drag racing is really mostly about the driver itself.

I have video of both runs. How do I download them in to the internet???

Not that I have anything against drag racing, but, 951s aren't meant to drag race....

Drag racing at the strip is a blast - no matter what you're driving! At one of the Porsche Parades a few years back (San Antonio - can't recall the year), they had a "night at the drags". This was a hoot! Using dial in numbers and the tree they were able to pit some VERY interesting combos. Try a new twin turbo 911 vs a 356! The 356 got a HUGE head start! Turbo spun a bit too much off the line and the 356 beat her by an eye lash at the finish!

I use to drag my 68 Cuda and 74 Charger back in the "good-ole-days" - it was always fun! Anyone who doesn't think Porsche's are great at the drags just hasn't been there!

I thought I was fast on the street years ago and then I went to the strip with my Mustang, I ran a 15.3 best time and thought that either something was wrong with my car or that all the magazines who run 14.7 with these 5.0s are lying. Then I started to come to the test and tune nights where I could get 15 passes in one night, the same car ran a 14.00 one month later with only the timing adjustment being changed. It is very true that only practice makes perfect. I do not believe that any 944 will get great 60' times but when I ran 14.0s my MPH was only 92-93 so at 96 MPH trap speeds I would say that car should dip into the mid to high 13s if it hooks up.

By the way when running 14.0s I was getting 60 foot times in the 1.90s and occasionally a 1.88 or so. The car was bone stock and after I modified with a gear change and slicks the 60' time dipped into the 1.60s

I went once I a 1/4 drag strip in my 1986 951 stock. I ran an 15.7 don't remember the trap speed. I had a really bad start first time going down a track, I had a friend of mine in the car that was giving me some pointers and his weight was around 200lbs. They gave me one of those pro-starts and I had a bad reaction time. I believe what I raced was one of the new camero or firebirds it only won by a car lenght since he knew what he was doing. I didn't even have the engine reved up when I started so times were slow. I need to try the strip few more times <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I havn't dragged a car before, I have my fun in the corners. I was at a local track watching and saw a dog sh#t brown VW Rabbit with a bunch of race stickers, including a Lunati cams sticker! I figured, I GOTTA SEE THIS! I was dumbfounded, it ran a 13.82!! It was even rusty and on steele wheels, couldn't have been newer than 83. Looked like the definition of POS!

I haven't dragged my 944 yet. My friend on the other hand Has his 92 eclipse GSX running 12.6 @ 107mph pretty friggen fast. He's beaten ZO6's. Oh and I'm sure you've heard of Ligenfelter (sp?) tuning There was a corvette coupe at the tracks last year it ran 10.1 @ 151mph. We went to check it out. twin turbo V8 tuned by Ligenfelter. Crazy car looks just like stock. I plan on trying my 944 once or twice.
