Post What is this wetsanding nonsense!

I am in the process of refinishing my phonedials. I have sanded the wheels down and thougholy washed away all remaining grit and dust. I broke out the old pneumatic spray gun and shot two coats of primer on the wheels, but I want to make the surface a little smoother, I hear alot of you talk about wet sanding. Would this help me before I shoot the actual aluminum finish? Thank you

if it fiberglass i would say yeah, wetsanding could get it just that little bit smoother. but on the metal wheels it might not make much differance. if it feels smooth to you i would say spray them. the primer will fill in any holes you cant feel with touch. I didnt wetsand my PDs and they came out fine. you jsut have to give the paint something to hold on to

You need paper designed to get wet, or the glue will detach. Find some wet/dry sandpaper, dunk it in a bucket, sand...

1500 grit wet/dry paper. Keep it wet with a little running water, sand until smooth.

I also know that when you get a very expensive paint job on a car they have you bring the car back after a few weeks and wet sand the whole car to get that mirror finish.

The preperation for the paint is what makes the paintjob look good, not the paint itself!
